This is a great idea, but if you don’t have a barrel available, you can do the same thing using old tires. Each time you get ready to add more soil and potato starts, just add another tire to the top. When it’s harvest time, knock them down one at a time and get your potatoes. This works especially well for small garden spaces.
I wonder how much water they need? This is a great idea! Especially around here with all the gophers! Don’t give them anything to nibble!

I am going to have to try this this year! The past 2 years we have not grown potatoes because we have been doing the square foot gardening ( which by the way we love). I really have missed making fresh green beans with potatoes. Well I still make it but its not the same without your own fresh potatoes. Thanks
This too would be good for disabled people like myself. I can’t bend over due to crippling arthritis. I have not been able to grow a garden lke I could 10 years ago. I just might try this. Wonderful idea. Thanks so much.
