Ingredients

Units

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk

Coffee Cake Topping:

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 to 1 tsp. nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Sift the first 5 ingredients and set aside.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars.
  3. Add eggs and beat well.
  4. Add the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk.
  5. Spread in a well-greased 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  6. Mix the topping ingredients and sprinkle on top of the batter.
  7. Cover with foil and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  8. When you’re ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes. To test, insert a toothpick in it and when it comes out clean you know it is done.
