Homemade Bath Bombs Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. oil (almond, sunflower, coconut, mineral, canola or baby oil may be used)
2 tsp. water
1–2 tsp. essential or fragrance oil
1/4 tsp. borax
bath safe colorant or food coloring
Instructions
- Mix baking soda, citric acid and cornstarch.
- Mix the wet ingredients and the borax.
- Slowly add to the dry ingredients, mixing constantly. Mix slowly or it will bubble too much.
- Pack the homemade bath bombs mixture into molds; let set for a few minutes and then remove from molds.
- Let dry another 24 hours. In humid climates you may need to dry longer.
Use 1-3 per bath. Store in an airtight container. Wrap the homemade bath bombs in cellophane bags for a nice gift.
Notes
*The mixture is very crumbly and dry. Mix as well as you can and then pack tightly into molds. If the homemade bath bombs won’t hold their shapes, add one teaspoon oil.
If you want to make Bath Seeds instead don’t pack into molds. Just place in a pretty jar and label. Use 2-4 tablespoons per bath.

Where do you get the citric acid? Also where is the cheapest place to find essential oils? TIA
Michael
I order it online for the best price. You can find it on Amazon. Tawra

Virginia is sold at any place that sells pharmacy items like wal mart, walgreens etc. It sometimes is in with the vitamin section. You just need to do some research to find the cheapest essential oils in your area, on line and such. You can find really cheap ones at places like dollar stores and wal mart now too.

How many bath bombs does this make?
Jill
Can’t really say how many because it depends on the size of mold you are using. It has about 2 cups of ingredients so if you use about 2 tbsp. per bomb it would get about 16. That is just a very general idea.

I got ornaments from Hobby Lobby or you can buy them online.

Does anyone know the ratio of food coloring and how to add to the mixture. I’m assuming in the wet ingredients. Looking for lavender. My trial and error was more error. LOL Thanks
Jill
You can add it to the liquids. Always start with just a couple of drops and then add more as you need to. For lavender you want to always add a drop or two more of red – for example 3 drops blue to 4 drops red. The more blue you add the more purple it will become.

In researching I read that you should be careful if you use food coloring as it can stain tubs. They make a colorant for bath bombs that you can order, something like La Bomb. Just thought I’d pass that along. Good luck!

What does the borax do?
Tawra
It helps with the chemical reaction.
Erin
why is this recipe different than the one you just made the video from.. you provided this link… I don’t like Borax.. what is the recipe you used on your video?
Tawra
The one in the video just uses different oils. If you don’t like borax don’t use it. There are plenty of recipes out thee.

My 8 year old son LOVES bath bombs. I decided to make a manly version because I knew he was tired of smelling like raspberries! This recipe is awesome!! Instead of usIng essential oils, I sprayed a few spritzes of his Dad’s cologne in the wet mixture and just added a few drops of extra oil. I added a couple drops of blue food coloring. He is THRILLED!
