This easy gingerbread recipe can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking it. Don’t let the long list of ingredients make it feel daunting. It is mostly spices and is very easy to mix together. Just mix all of the ingredients together and bake, for perfectly light, fluffy, and delicious gingerbread.
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
If you want to Freeze the Gingerbread Dough for later:
After mixing the gingerbread dough and placing it in the pan, freeze it. Then when you’re ready to use it, place it in a cold oven and bake at 350° for about 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
If you don’t have whipped topping for your gingerbread, you can use some vanilla frosting on it.
