Cinnamon Apple Dumplings Recipe

1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1 (8 oz.) can crescent rolls
2 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped nuts
powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. While the oven is pre-heating, melt the butter in the oven in a 7×11 or a 9×9 inch baking pan. (Take the baking pan out of the oven as soon as the butter is melted so it doesn’t burn.)
  3. Cook the sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
  4. Press out the crescent dough into a rectangle shape.
  5. Spread the apples onto the dough.
  6. Mix the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon; Sprinkle this mixture on top of the apples and dough.
  7. Starting at the short end, roll up jelly roll style.
  8. Seal the seam and slice about 3/4″ thick.
  9. Lay the jelly roll in the baking pan that contains the melted butter.
  10. Carefully pour the sugar syrup over everything.
  11. Bake for 35-38 minutes, until golden brown.

Notes

  • If you like, you may dust with powdered sugar or sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
  • In recipes like this, you can add the butter to the baking pan and place it in the oven to melt while it is preheating. This reduces the number of dishes you will need to wash. Watch it, because as soon as it is almost all melted you will want to pull the pan out of the pven tp prevent the butter from burning.
  • I don’t like my apples in any apple recipes to be only partially cooked. If I have time, I place the apples in a bowl and microwave it for about a minute to partially cook the apples before spreading it on to the dough.
