Adding a cup full of really nice wine to the mushroom soup and cooking that in a pot separately before combining ingredints gives a much richer flavor. The alcohol in the wine will cook off and the soup will not be diluted.

Tarragon… Saute onion separately and when done add two tsps of tarragon mix and add to beef and soup mixture then fold in sour cream yogurt and spoon it on to the rice or egg noodles.
Onions with tarragon are great but tarragon can’t be heated too long without losing savor. Tarragonised sauted onions makes gourmet Mac and cheese tooπ

I always enjoy making this recipe! It was so tasty the first time I tried it in 2021 and I got meat on sale that was in the freezer, so I am making it today.
Kelly
This sounds like a great recipe so I’m going to try it. What do you mean by 1 Tbsp. of catsup cooked? Cooked how?
Jill
Oops. Sorry Kelly thanks for pointing that out. It was a typo and should have been noodles cooked. I fixed it.
Mary
do I add a can of milk to the mushroom soup? Can I use onion powder if so how much?
Jill
No you don’t add a can of milk and yes you can use onion powder – that is the only thing I use.
Abi
I’m excited to try this tonight! I received your dining on a dime book yesterday as a gift.
Linda
I’ve made this for over 40 years & we love it. I don’t put catsup in it though. Thanks for sharing.

My family loves beef stroganoff. It’s a favorite of every one of them!
I use real chopped onion and a couple of cloves of minced garlic to the floured, seasoned beef as it’s browning. Then add a cup of good beef broth and a large can of sliced or chopped mushrooms, let simmer a bit and add the sour cream about 5 minutes before serving. So simple and easy too, but I can see the advantage of the cream of mushroom soup and garlic powder also just in case I don’t have the others on hand. Thanks for the recipe.
Sue
I made this!

I like making easy stuff.

Is there a way that this can be made Dairy free? Does Tara have it in her dairy free gluten free cook book?
Jill
Think it is but not for sure (I don’t have a book to check it out – They are all at Tawra’s and need to get one) but you can just use dairy free sour cream for it.
Cristine Howard
Thankyou soo much. I do so love how helpful you and Tawra are. I will try that. God Bless.
Jill
You are so welcome Cristine. This is one of my favorite recipes and it is so easy to make.
