Angel Food Delight – Pineapple And Coconut Cake Recipes
Tips:
When it comes to cooking, there are certain things that are on my list of “not too fun things to do.” I try to avoid these things when possible or find faster and easier ways to do them.
Here are a few things you may not like doing and some easier ways to do them:
- Chopping pickles (for egg salad, tuna, potato salad, etc.) I would normally just cut a pickle or two with my knife because the amount of time it takes to drag out a chopper, rinse it, let it dry and have to put it away for one little pickle seems like overkill to me. Here is an even easier method that Tawra often uses:Take several pickles, chop them with a chopper, place in a jar or container and cover with a little juice. Then, when you need a spoonful or two, just scoop them out of the jar, pressing the spoon against the side of the jar to remove the juice. These are almost like chunky pickle relish. Now you have chopped pickles handy all the time.
- Cracker Crumbs For years, I have tossed crackers into a bag and crushed them with a rolling pin. The bag would usually get a hole in it and I would end up with a big mess. (Believe it or not, I don’t own a food processor or chopper.)Instead, try placing your crackers into a wide mouth mug or small bowl. Use a narrower tumbler that fits inside the first mug to crush your crackers or cereal for crumbs. You could also crush a large amount of crackers into crumbs in a food processor all at once. Store in a large airtight container with a scoop and you’ll have them handy and ready whenever you need them. This works especially well for graham cracker crumbs if you make a lot of pie crusts or to use in other recipes.
- Cutting Meat For years, I used a knife to cube all kinds of my meat, until I discovered kitchen shears. Even a nice pair of strong scissors works well. Now I cut my meat with the kitchen shears. It only takes half the time and I don’t have to clean a cutting board afterward. If you are cutting something like steak into cubes, cut it when it’s slightly frozen, because it is easier to cut.

FWIW,
oploftbed.com has plans and hardware to make loft beds – I’ve made awesome, super sturdy, beds from their plans for less than $100 including hardware and wood in 8 to 12 hours each; depending on if I had help. The last twin size loft bed was sleepable in 4 hours; it wasn’t painted though.

I have been reading your new letters for a few years now and find them very interesting and informative. I have tried several of your recipies but have to sub out some items because my husband is diabetic.
Any chance every so often you could but in some diabetic recipies?? Also any chance of including stats on the food??? Sugar, salt, fats etc.???

I picked up a small food chopper/processor at Walmart on Good Friday for $3.00 a few years ago. That is one of the best things I have ever done. It lets me make baby food in a snap. It lets me chopped eggs, chopped pickles, crackers, or even bread crumbs in a snap. It is small, holds about 1 cup of product, and is so easy to clean. It is one of the few things in keep out on my kitchen shelf.

These cakes sound so yummy. I plan to give them both a try.

As for chopping pickles I don’t have the time or energy. I buy relish at the $ store in a glass jar and add it to my egg and tuna salads as well as to my hotdog/hamburgers or whatever else you would normally add pickles to!!! Taste great without the work!

Re: chopped pickles
If you know someone who lives in the South, have them pick up a few jars of salad pickles–perfect for tuna and potato salad. These are chopped larger than pickle relish, and a large jar lasts me 6 to 12 months.

I made this cake last night for a funeral dinner today. There wasn’t even a tiny crumb left on the platter. Also, to dress it up a little, I made the cake in layer pans and put the pudding between the layers and on top then “frosted” with the whipped topping. It was beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

It is so funny because even though there is a place for gourmet foods everyone still loves just the good old basics like pudding, angel food cake and whipped topping.

Hi, Just wanted to let everyone know, I made the “Angel Food Delight” Cake for our bi-monthly Lions Club Meeting and Boy, was it ever a hit, they did everything including scraping the bowl for left-overs. I used strawberry pie filling because strawberries are plentiful here in North Carolina now, so it was cheap. Gotta say the whole cake was inexpensive to make and everyone thought I spent a fortune. Since I retired early last year I have been looking for ways to save even more money than before when I worked. Your website really helps and I can’t believe how much information you share for free to the public. I avoid websites that charge. Thanks, keep those tips and recipes coming….Cindy

Oh yum Cindy. We don’t get very good deals on strawberries here but if we did I would love to do it with strawberries. I remember for my 16th birthday when asked what I wanted for it I said a whole basket of strawberries and a pitcher of orange juice. I still remember it to this day. It was soooo good. We talk about things being expensive now but juice was drank sparingly because it cost so much.

Use a slotted spoon or fork to scoop out the pickles. When I chop/iron/wash/etc I do everthing. I can put chopped pickle on my burger and enjoy it was much as a whole one. I recently had leftover eggs so I hard boiled, chopped, and froze them rather than toss them. Haven’t eaten them so I don’t know if it worked. If it doesn’t I only lost time. And the dog can eat chewy eggs.
Sheri
I’m wondering why you are chopping pickles? We use pickle relish. It comes in sweet and dill.
Tawra
Because some can taste a difference in the pickles and the relish plus sometimes we can get pickles for free or cheaper so we use what we have.
Maria
Hi.
Please, could you enlighten me: what is the difference between angel food cake and Bundt cake and pound cake? In Sweden we have something that translate to sugar cake, here is one recipe.
Mix in small bowl
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
grated peel of 1 lemon
In larger bowl beat until really fluffy
2 eggs
2/3 cup sugar
carefully stir in
1/3 cup plus 2Tbsp water or milk
Carefully stir in flour mixture, followed by 2 ounces melted cooled butter or margarine
Pour batter into greased cake pan with hole in the middle
Stick in the middle of preheated 375°F) oven for 30 min.

Maria an angel food cake is a cake made with mostly whipped egg whites. Recipes differ but one example is 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 sugar and 12 egg whites plus vanilla etc. A Bundt cake in loose terms is a regular cake baked in a special shaped Bundt pan that has a hole in the center of it and has wide fluted type sides. An angel food cake pan has a hole in it too but has smooth sides and you usually have to turn it upside down to cool. A pound cake got it’s name because originally they used a pound of most of the ingredients to make it for example a pound of flour, sugar, eggs etc. It is a heavier cake and now a day you usually don’t use quite that amount of ingredients but it still makes a heavier cake. Thanks for the Sugar cake recipe. I have heard of them before but have never had a recipe for one.

Hi Tawra,
Thank you so much! I’ve wondered for a long time. Is angel food cake light in texture? I’ll have to try to bake one.
Do you have any frugal yet festive and easy would also be nice, ideas for breakfast during summertime? Were getting house guest and want too treat them but still stay in budget. Of course we’ll cut down on our fascists the week before and after the visit but the budget will feel feeding 4 more people for a weekend so I feel I should think first and buy later. They arrive late at night so I’m thinking they might like an egg sandwich and tea or hot or warm chocolate for the kids. In the morning I first thought of yoghurt cereal and toast, but then I thought pancakes. But is that feasible for 8 people? Perhaps scones fresh from the oven, butter, cheese, marmalade, tea, coffee and a piece of fruit. Perhaps I should have juice instead of fruit? Or both? Should there be more? We normally have oatmeal or pancakes on weekend breakfasts and perhaps a piece of toast. Then they stay for lunch and dinner and perhaps one more night. My friend will help me cook, which is nice since I’ll work long days this week and will be too tired to really prepare anything. Oh I am so glad to see them, its been a year.:-)

I am eager to try the pineapple cake and use strawberries instead. I love anything with strawberries and think the angel food cake would be great with strawberries, too.
We are rolling in berries here so it is time to use them in desserts. My husband likes his dipped in powdered sugar but I like mine with cake, especially angel food cake. Remember those little yellow cakes with the dent in the middle that you used for strawberry shortcake. They were not found for a long time but I am beginning to see them in stores again. My family thinks they taste like cardboard but I like them. Just reminds me of when I was a kid and that was a good, special Sunday night dessert. Six in a package, just enough for one of each for our family.

Can wait to try this recipe!!!!
Can you find a sugar cream pie recipe?? It the Indiana state pie! But it’s hard to find a good recipe for it. Thanks 🙏 Maria Angrick [email protected]

You know Maria we have had some requests for this. We are in the middle of moving so don’t know when but will put this on top of our list of recipes to test. You could google it and check out 3-4 different ones that you find. It seems to be a pretty simple recipe with few ingredients and pretty common ones.
