Ingredients For The No Bake Peanut Butter Pie Recipe
Oreo Cookies – Our version of the no bake peanut butter pie uses a tasty chocolate crust made from Oreo Cookies. You don’t have to use the name brand. The store brand cookies work just fine. If you prefer not to make it with a chocolate crust (Perish the thought!), you can use graham crackers in place of the cookies instead to make a graham cracker crust. You can follow our recipe here or simply substitute about 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs in place of the Oreo cookies.
Butter or Margarine – The butter or margarine makes the crust stick together. If you use butter, the crust will have a richer flavor, but you might not notice the difference once the full pie is put together. Either works fine, so if you want to save a little money, you can use the margarine. (Don’t use whipped margarine or light margarine in a tub because these contain too much water.)
Cream Cheese – This no bake peanut butter pie recipe calls for cream cheese, which gives the pie a super smooth texture and amplifies the rich flavor of the peanut butter.
Peanut Butter – In keeping with the smooth texture of the cream cheese, the basic recipe calls for creamy peanut butter, but if you like, you can use the crunchy variety for a different texture.
Powdered sugar – The 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar gives the pie just the right amount of sweet to make this no bake peanut butter pie sweet perfection! If you like, you can experiment with adding a little more powdered sugar or a little less to make it more or less sweet, but we always recommend following the recipes exactly the first time you make it so you know what it is actually supposed to taste like.
Whipped topping – Any brand of whipped topping like Cool Whip or any off brand will work in this pie. The whipped topping lightens the density of the pie to give it a nice consistency.

How To Make the No Bake Peanut Butter Pie Recipe
(The full no bake peanut butter pie recipe is below.)
To make the pie crust, first crush the cookies. You can place them in a food processor and pulse them until you have fine crumbs or you can crush them in a plastic bag. I like to place them in a quart-sized Ziploc bag. Then I squeeze the air out of the bag, seal it, and crush the cookies with a rolling pin. Turn over the bag and crush the other side. Continue until you get the consistency of fine crumbs. This literally takes me 1 minute.
Next, melt the butter. I like to melt it in a large measuring cup so I can simply pour the crumbs into the same measuring cup in the next step.
To make the crust mixture, pour the butter into the crumbs and stir with a spoon to coat evenly.
Press the crust mixture evenly into a 9 inch pie pan making sure to press them into the bottom and up the sides. Use the bottom of a glass or a measuring cup to press the crumbs firmly and evenly. Place the crust in the refrigerator to chill while you prepare the filling.
To make the peanut butter pie filling, place the cream cheese, peanut butter and powdered sugar into a mixing bowl and beat until it is smooth.
Fold in the whipped topping.
Pour the entire mixture into the crust and carefully spread it to the edges with a spatula. Be careful not to mess up the crust at the edges.
Carefully place the pie into the refrigerator and chill for at least 3 hours or overnight before serving, to allow the flavors to meld and the filling to set. If you don’t expect to serve the no bake peanut butter pie for a while, you can freeze it. Just make sure to thaw it about 30 minutes before serving.
If desired, you could spread more whipped topping over the top or add chopped peanuts or peanut butter cups for extra garnish.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I make this no bake peanut butter pie recipe ahead of time?
Yes! This pie is perfect for making ahead of time. It needs to chill for at least 3 hours to meld the flavors together, but overnight is even better. You can prepare it up to 2 days in advance and keep it covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve. - Can I freeze no-bake peanut butter pie?
Absolutely. To freeze the pie whole for a longer duration, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil to prevent freezer burn. It can be frozen for up to 1 month. Thaw it in the refrigerator before serving.
Alternatively, you can freeze individual pie slices to enjoy anytime. Place the whole pie in the freezer in the pie tin just until it is lightly frozen and easy to cut. Then remove from the freezer, slice into serving size slices and freeze individually. If you like, you can store the individual slices in a large Ziploc freezer bag. - What if I don’t have a food processor for the pie crust?
No problem! You can crush the Oreo cookies (or graham crackers) by placing them in a ziplock bag and using a rolling pin to crush them into fine crumbs. - Can I use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy in the no bake peanut butter pie recipe?
Yes, you can. Crunchy peanut butter will add a bit of texture to the filling, which can be a nice variation if you enjoy the crunch of peanut pieces. - Can I use heavy whipping cream instead of whipped topping?
Yes. To use heavy whipping cream, use 1 cup of heavy cream. Whip the heavy whipping cream in a bowl until stiff peaks form. This will take about 3-4 minutes with an electric mixer. Then gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture, being careful not to deflate the whipped cream. - How do I prevent the pie from being too sweet?
The sweetness can be adjusted by using less powdered sugar in the filling or by opting for a less sweet crust, like one made from crushed pretzels. You can also use dark chocolate for the topping to balance the sweetness.
