This easy homemade hush puppies recipe makes tasty golden hush puppies just like your favorite restaurant! Crisp and buttery on the outside and delicious and moist and tender on the inside, they are the perfect complement to all kinds of meals!
If you love Long John Silvers Hush Puppies you will LOVE this homemade hush puppies recipe! They are so good they could be a meal by themselves! You can find this recipe in volume 1 of our Dining On A Dime Cookbook.
Hush puppies are a tasty Southern fried cornbread side dish typically served with seafood, barbecue, fried chicken or other deep fried foods. They are small, deep-fried round bread-like balls made from a cornmeal-based batter, with a delicious savory flavor.
Crisp on the outside with a moist tender middle, with a salty, buttery onion flavor, these hush puppies are super delicious! We prefer the recipe just as it is, but some people mix things like finely diced garlic, corn, peppers or scallions into the batter for a slightly different taste and colorful look.
If you have eaten at a Seafood restaurant in the Southern United States or at a fast food restaurant like Long John Silver’s, you are probably familiar with this tasty treat, but did you know they’re super easy to make at home?
These are perfect with fish and with some of our popular recipes like our easy chicken fried steak, easy chicken tenders, crockpot Salisbury steak or garlic chicken!

HI, This recipe sounds great. Have you tried making a low fat version of this? For example, could I bake it as a loaf instead? Thanks Ally (PS love your blog)
Jill
I have not Ally. Since these need to be fried in oil I am not sure they would be as good baked but guess you could try it once and see what happens.
Jackie
This was the best hush puppies I have ever had. They are very light tasting. My family loved them. Thanks for a great recipe.
Jill
